Blog Tour : What a Girl Wants by Lindsey Kelk - Interview

I am so delighted to be a part of the blog tour for Lindsey Kelk's new book, What a Girl Wants! I could not shut my curious mind and I asked her almost everything from writing, beauty products to fashion.

Tess Brookes was the girl with a plan.

Now she’s the girl with a choice.

Should she stay in London and start her own advertising agency with her best friend and potential boyfriend Charlie? Or should she head to exciting Milan to pursue both a new career as a photographer and a new man, the enigmatic and elusive (and highly irritating) Nick?

For the first time, Tess has to choose between the life she always dreamed of and a future she never imagined possible. With her heart and her head pulling her in different directions, Tess has to make a life-changing decision about What a Girl Wants.

Here's the interview with the ever lovely Lindsey!

1. Hi, Lindsey! How would you describe your new series for those that have not read them before?

Hi! My books are fun, funny smart rom-coms for fun, funny, smart people that take a look at how we live our lives in the modern world. Or at least, they’re supposed to be. I think my books are easy to read and should put a smile on your face, I try to write realistic, relatable characters who we can all cheer for while they’re dealing with some of life’s more ridiculous crises.

2. Why did you pick ‘What a Girl Wants’ as the title of your new book and how does it relate to the book?

I hate picking titles, it’s so hard! The first book in this series was called About a Girl so I knew I wanted ‘girl’ to be in the title. When I started writing the book, What a Girl Wants just made sense. The first book was about Tess working out what to do when her life plan fell apart, this one is about Tess making difficult choices about what she wants in life. Plus, About a Girl is the title of a Nirvana song and What a Girl Wants is the title of a Christina Aguilera song so I’m keeping with the theme!

3. What do you love the most about publication day?

It always feels so crazy. Usually the book has snuck out before but there is something amazing about waking up and thinking, my book is out today. You put so much love and effort and time into a book – it’s not an easy job, even though it is a rewarding and wonderful one – and so it’s incredible to know it’s out there and making people smile.

4. If you could go back in time and tell Shakespeare one thing about Romeo and Juliet, what would it be and why?

I would shake his hand and thank him for the awesome Dire Straits song it inspired.

5. Name an expensive item that you bought and now regret buying.

I try never to regret things but there are a certain pair of Saint Laurent boots that I convinced myself I ‘deserved’ on my birthday a couple of years ago that I’ve worn maybe twice. Good god, I wish I could take them back.

6. What do you think of Kristen Stewart being the new face of Chanel?

Honestly, I’m not her biggest fan but it’s not like Karl Lagerfeld hasn’t made interesting choices and said some questionable things in the past. I’m intrigued to see what they’re going to do with her.

7. How would you describe your own sense of style and who is your favourite designer?

I love fashion and have really come to find my own place in the world in the last couple of years. My style is pretty classic with a tendency towards vintage detailing – full skirts, little collars, high heels. I love fifties and sixties dresses, clean lines and block colours and if I’m going to do patterns, it’s pretty much always stripes or plaid or the odd bit of floral. That said, I do love mixing and matching and my workout gear is the most lurid, terrifying mix of neons ever seen.

It’s hard to pick a favourite designer but I always like seeing what the designers are up to during fashion week. I forget as soon as I’ve seen them, but I do like Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Saint Laurent and Vivienne Westwood.

8. If you could own just one pair of shoes, which would it be?

Probably my black ballet flats, they go with everything. If I could have a pair of heels as well, I’d go with my black patent pointed Jimmy Choos, they’re so beautiful and so practical.

9. Five beauty products you swear by?

I’m a TOTAL beauty addict so this is tough BUT here’s what comes to mind…

Elemis Cleansing Balm, Bliss Micro Magic Scrub, Astalift Jelly, Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream and Dior Lip Glow Balm.

10. This or that -
  • Mascara or eyeliner?
Mascara, always.
  • New York or London?
New York, it’s home now.
  • Dior or NARS?
So hard! I’m in love with Dior Fluid Sticks right now so Dior.
  • Pizza or pasta?
Pizza!

11. You must be bored of answering questions, sorry! Here is the final one: Are you already working on another book?

No worries! I am. An ebook for Christmas called Jenny Lopez Saves Christmas and then a new novel for next spring. PHEW!

Thank you for answering my questions and have an amazing day, Lindsey! xx
